Chiang Rai
Chiang Rai is the most northerly province and major city in Thailand. The city is relatively small with a population of 200,000. It is about 860 kilometres north of Bangkok, and 200 kilometres north-east of Chiang Mai. The city retains a strong Lanna identity, mostly through its impressive collection of temples, art, language, cuisine and music. The city acts a gateway to Chiang Rai province and its impressive attractions.
Chiang Rai Province is part of the Golden Triangle region bordering Laos and Myanmar (Burma). It’s distinguished by its remote hill tribes who live in mountainous terrain barely accessible except by trekking. Experience highlights of the province include Wat Rong Khun ( The White Temple ), Baan Dam ( The Black House ), The Opium Museum, Hill Tribe Villages, Doi Mae Salong and its tea plantations.
